Foster claims first Hurley NSW Championship Circuit title of the year in style

Beau Foster (Lake Munmorah, NSW) pulled the cat out of the bag today at Cronulla, winning the Triple Bull Pro in a amazing come-from-behind victory.

As the first event on the prestigious 2009 Hurley NSW Championship Circuit, the Triple Bull Pro today saw Australia’s best cadet’s (16 years and under) going ballistic at one of the state’s best waves and most beautiful locations.

With $500 up for grabs the Triple Bull Pro offered the state’s next crop with an opportunity to compete for serious monetary rewards and bragging rights, but in an all-star final it was Foster who stole the show – literally.

Winning from Cooper Chapman (North Narrabeen, NSW), Jack Scollard (Lake Munmorah, NSW) and (Cronulla, NSW), who finished second, third and fourth respectively, Foster squeaked home.

Chapman led the from the outset posting a 5.10 (out of a possible 10), but was in need of a decent backup score to solidify his lead.

And that’s when Foster struck.

“This is my biggest result so I’m super stoked,” said a joyous Foster.

With two minutes remaining he was in perfect position for one of the bigger waves of the day and went to work with a flurry of forehand manoeuvres to net himself a 6.10 (out of a possible 10) and move from third into first.

“There’d been long lulls all day and I knew the only way to get through heats was to be in position for the set waves”, said an ecstatic Foster.

“I was lucky enough to be in the right spot when that set came through with two minutes to go and I got the score I needed to win”.

For Chapman however, the form surfer of the event, today’s result is bittersweet.

“It just didn’t go my way today unfortunately,” he said dejectedly.

“I knew I needed a decent backup wave but I couldn’t get one and was out of position when that set came through in the last few minutes.”

Tomorrow will see the men in the water with an excellent cast of professional and amateur star’s on show, and, with an expected rise in the swell overnight, tomorrow could well be Super Sunday at the Triple Bull Pro.

“A rise in long period south swell is forecast overnight so we are hopeful of a great day of competition on day two for the Open Men,” said Surfing NSW Operations Manager, Peter Hunt.

The Triple Bull Pro will take place from 16-17 May 2009 at Cronulla.

The Open Men will be on standby to commence at 7:45am on Sunday 16th May.
