Honey Women’s Surf Classic goes off in style

Rachel Campbell (Stanwell Park, NSW) finished second in both the Open and the 20 years division today at North Cronulla.

(Cronulla, NSW – Monday, 18 October 2010): Female surfing of the highest quality ushered in a memorable day of competition as the Honey Women’s Surf Classic set alight North Cronulla today.Greeted with epic conditions, which amplified the amazing surfing on show, all competitors revelled in the rising two-metre swell.

Audrey Styman-Lane (Avalon, NSW) dominated at North Cronulla today, claiming the 16 years division of the Honey Women’s Surf Classic.

In what can be described as a true celebration of women in the sport of surfing, featuring female competitors aged 10 to 45, today saw the future of Australian surfing taking centre stage.

Also on hand was a handful of inspirational mentors for the competitors, with international wakeboard star Amber Wing, current ASP World Tour surfer Jesse Miley-Dyer and the original members of Cronulla’s foundation, female boardriding club – the Kurranulla Wahines.

Whilst promoting fun, confidence and camaraderie, the competition was still fierce across all five divisions.

Skye Burgess (Lake Heights, NSW) took out both the Open Women’s and Under 20 Girls divisions at the Honey Women’s Surf Classic which was held in epic conditions at the weekend.

Having thrown down an array of amazing performances throughout the day, Skye Burgess (Lake Heights, NSW) was crowned champion in both the Open and under 20 years division’s.

Dominating from the outset, Burgess was more than at home in the solid conditions.

“The waves were really fun,” she said with a smile.

“It’s great to finally get some good waves in a competition.”

Earmarked as one of the next superstars to emerge from the talent laden south coast, Burgess was happy to be a part of the day.

“Event’s like this are great because they promote surfing for all the girls,” Burgess added.

“It was cool to see all the young girls compete and have a good day.”

Reigning 18 years Australian Longboard champion Erin Dark (Gerringong, NSW) claimed the Open Longboard division, whilst Audrey Styman-Lane (Avalon, NSW) and Billie Melinz (Coalcliff, NSW) took home the 16 and 13 years division’s respectively.
