news update 9 10 08 Burgess and Campbell reign supreme at Maccas Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage (Elouera Beach, NSW Sunday, 9 November 2008): Jarrod Campbell (Cronulla, NSW) and Skye Burgess (Lake Heights, NSW) blew apart Maccas Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage today at Elouera, taking the blue ribbon divisions (16 years and under) in style. Both recording dominant performances throughout the entire event, Campbell and Burgess were rewarded for their excellent surfing claiming the prestigious crown. In a final, which featured some of the countrys hottest junior surfing talent, Campbell was the star of the show, demolishing the shifting peaks at Elouera. Im so stoked, Campbell said after his victory in the 16 years and under division. This is definitely my best result to date, he added. Defeating
Max Ayshford (Matraville, NSW), Kurt Kiggins (Cronulla, NSW) and Jesse
Horner (Cronulla, NSW), who finished second, third and fourth respectively,
Campbell was in dynamic form in an all-star shootout. The standard was so high throughout the entire event and the final was no different. Using a blistering backhand arsenal, Campbell accrued a total heat score of 14.40 (out of a possible 20), which was accented by a number of gouging turns and vertical re-entrys. Revelling in the local conditions, a break which he surfs every day, Campbell drew upon local knowledge to see him through. I feel really comfortable out here, he said. Having an awesome competition like this at home is such a good thing, Im that stoked that Ive managed to take home the title. Contrasting other surfing competitions, Maccas Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage saw the hottest junior competitors from south of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, in the north, to Kiama in the south, surfing three heats each without elimination. In the 16 years and under girls division it was and Skye Burgess (Lake Heights, NSW) who shone the brightest, posting a superb display of surfing. Saving her best performance for last, Burgess blew the final apart, accruing a massive heat total of 15.73 (out of a possible 20) leaving her fellow finalists requiring a combination of scores to steal her crown. Im over the moon, Burgess said. I felt really comfortable out there and am extremely happy with this result. Joining Burgess in the final was Rachel Campbell (Stanwell Park, NSW), April Charles (Woolooware, NSW) and Renee Savas (Caringbah, NSW), who finished second, third and fourth respectively. Having had an already stellar 2008, Burgess performance today added another crown to the ever-growing trophy cabinet at the Burgess residence. This year has been a really good one for so far, Burgess said reflectively. Ive had a number of wins and minor placings and todays result gives me a lot of confidence going into next year, she admitted. In the 13 years and under boys division Chris Robertson (Cronulla, NSW) was the champion, whilst in the girls division it was Tayla Ayshford (Matraville, NSW) who finished on top of the field. The
event, which is the last Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage event staged
throughout the year, acts as a qualifying event for the Ocean &
Earth International Teenage Rampage to be held at Curl Curl in December. |
