International Field of Red Hot youngsters to line up for the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage at Curl Curl Beach

Monday December 22, 2008: A tremendous high quality international field will converge on Curl Curl Beach just after Christmas for the annual Ocean and Earth International Teenage Rampage.

Sydney’s northern beaches is where most of the worlds very best 20 year and under surfers are heading as ASP professional surfing continues it’s high level events with the Ocean and Earth International Teenage Rampage closing out the 2008 year and then within days the ASP Billabong World Junior Championships will open the 2009 season at nearby North Narrabeen beach.

The future stars of the sport will surf off for the high-status Ocean and Earth International Teenage Rampage title and just a few of the internationals in the line up include Tahiti’s Tamaroa McComb, USA’s Nat Young and French star Maxcine Huschenot while Australia’s top hopes include Queensland’s Julian Wilson and Northern NSW surfer Heath Joske.

Wilson’s form will be of interest to everyone having just come off an ankle injury that has kept him out of competition for nearly six months.

Just back from Hawaii, Wilson today said “I’m excited to get back into a contest jersey and surf a couple of heats. My ankle’s starting to feel pretty good and hopefully things are even better by the time the world’s come around! I’m feeling pretty confident after a few weeks of surfing in Hawaii and I’m just loving being back in the water!”

The Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage 16’s and 13’s format has been acclaimed by Australia’s top young surfers Australia wide and adds to what will be a huge week of surfing

Contest Director Adam Hennessey added “this event has a long history and we are thrilled to have so many world class surfers taking part in 2008 - It’s a great opportunity for our grommets to test themselves against top surfers from other countries in what is a fun atmosphere and the new contest formula will give all the younger divisions time to surf a number of heats outside the normal straight knock out format.”

The event begins Saturday 27th of December and runs through to Tuesday 30th.

* 10th Year and regarded as one of the premiere grommet events in Australia

* *Divisions 13, 16’s 20’s boys and girls

** Began in 1999 with 32 surefers - 2008 220 surfers from 10 countries will compete.

* Former winners include Jordy Smith , Jeremy Flores , Ben Dunn, Yadin Nicol , Owen Wright , Shaun Cansdell

* Defending champion Chris Salisbury is out after injuring himself in Hawaii

*This year overseas surfers make up over half the draw in the 20’s boys

International rated Surfer of note include , Tamaroa McComb (Tahiti) Nat Young (USA), Shaun Jobourt(Sth Africa), Nobu Osawa (Japan), Alex Ribeiro (Brazil) and Maxine Huschenot (France)

Standout Aussies include Julian Wilson , Heath Joske and Lyncoln Taylor all looking take the title .

On the local front, Nick Riley will lead the hunt.

Other locals in the main event include Davey Cathels and David Vlugg and Chris Enever


The girls division are ultra strong with World Junior Champion Laura Enever looking for back to back wins.

Other surfers of note include Elley-Jean Coffey (16’s), Kirby Wright (20’s) and Japanese star and former event winner Nao Omura


Both the 13 and 16’s boys draw will take on a new exciting format which will see surfers competing over three rounds with their top two scores from each heat going to wards their overall ranking , the top 8 highest scores will move onto the semi finals


The 16’s boys top seed is recently crowned Australain champion and Northern Beaches Local Cooper Chapman , who will be looking to add another title to his growing list of results.
