Sandon Point Surfing Festival 2009
The
10th and final Save Sandon Point Surfing Festival is being held this
coming June long weekend on the 6th, 7th and 8th.
Over the last 10 years surfers have gathered at Sandon Point to show
their opposition to the amount of development being proposed for the
adjacent land to the Sandon Point headland.
It has also been a show of support for the Aboriganal tent embassy
set up at Macauleys beach.
The motto has always been "surfers caring for the environment"!

This
years event carries cash and prizes valued at $8000.oo
Divisions include under 15's, under 18's, opens, over 35's and over
45's.
The major prize is 7 days/6 nights aboard Indonesian surf charter
boat Surf Desert Storm with all participants going into the draw which
will be made at the presentation.
Competitors are asked to meet at Sandon Point at 7.ooam on Saturday
for a run down of when the event will kick off or log onto www.waxheads.com

Wollongong's
Nick Squires would have to be favourite for the opens division
with his dominant display in the first half of the year on the Australian
Championship Circuit (ACC), Nick is currently in first place
on the circuit after 4 events and is in devestating form.Local surfers
Phil Watt jnr, Karl Lavis, Luke Nolan and
Tim Bilman are expected to provide some stiff opposition.
Last years winner in the over 35's divsion, Gregg Macann will
be back to defend his title with the likes of Jez Smith, Robbie
Page and Mick Van Opstal out to stop Gregg claming
a double.
The over 45's field is wide open with the likes of Phil Byrne,
Paul Nichol, Phil Pearson and of course the super keen Andrew
Johnson expected to fight it out.

The
under 18's is a hot field with locals Leroy Davis, Josh Watt and
Dane Kettle up against the hot crew from Gerringgong and surrounding
suburbs including Doug Chandler, Troy Langedon and Matt
Gale.
The under 15's is a great event with the grommets always keen to impress
potential sponsors with last years winner Zac Scott up against
the Sandon Point duo of Eden Roscoe and Conor Tapsell and
Stanwell Parks Kalani Ball defenitly a surfer of the future
to watch.
