BLUESCOPE STEEL SUPPORTING ILLAWARRA SURFERS IN 2009
Surfing Illawarra is pleased to announce the continuation of the BlueScope Steel Junior Series for 2009. We are very grateful to BlueScope Steel for their continued support of junior surf development in the Illawarra region.

Following much discussion and planning, the Surfing Illawarra Committee has decided to run the series with a different format for the 2009 season. Our goals for the series remain the same, to discover and develop new surfing talent within our juniors by providing a competitive framework governed by ASP rules. The process for state selection will remain the same except that it will now be based on surfer’s best two results from three events. In order to manage event cost and attract community participation, the three events will be run in collaboration with the i98 Summer Search Parties. We appreciate i98’s support for event management and cash prizes along with sponsors Beach Street Surf Scene are also donating thousands in prizes. Surfing Illawarra will continue to engage professional judges, an accredited head judge and be governed by ASP rules.

This year, event entry will be FREE thanks to BlueScope Steel and i98’s support, so all you need to do to register for the series is go to the i98 Summer Search Parties website and click on Surf Comp. Note also that i98 will be running other events and competitions including 2 surfing “expression sessions” that are not part of the Bluescope Junior Series. The Series will be the latter three surfing comps at Port Kembla, Bulli and North Wollongong.

We look forward to another fantastic Bluescope Steel Junior series in 2009 and wish all our junior surfers aspiring to the world circuit, the very best preparation and competitive results.
