Dripping Wet Pro Junior presented by Arrive alive Ready To Erupt

(Kingscliff, NSW – Tuesday, 8 September 2009): With the best junior surfers in Australasia ready to take apart one of the most iconic beach breaks in Australia, the Dripping Wet Pro Junior presented by Arrive alive is ready for liftoff.

Using the celebrated Manly Beach as its backdrop, the Dripping Wet Pro Junior presented by Arrive alive will see the hottest junior surfers on the globe battling for vital ratings points and surfing supremacy.

With a host of exceptional local and international stars competing including current undefeated ASP Australasia Pro Junior ratings leader, and ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) standout, Owen Wright (Lennox Head, NSW), Dean Bowen (Gerroa, NSW) and Garrett Parks (Suffolk Park, NSW) on hand, the action is set to be electrifying.

Wright, who has had the most memorable years of competition ever is still yet to be defeated in a ASP Australasian Pro Junior event and with a good result at Manly can take home the Series.

One man looking to stand in the way of the dominance of Wright is Northern Beaches virtuoso, and current ASP Australasia Pro Junior fifth rated surfer, Davey Cathels (North Narrabeen, NSW), who is chomping at the bit.

Having taken time-out over the last month at home to focus on his fitness and surfing, Cathels is fired-up for a big result at home.

“I’ve been cruising at home over the past few weeks and really taking time-out to concentrate on my surfing and fitness,” Cathels stated.

“I’m feeling really good coming into this event, so hopefully I can capitalise on a good preparation.”

Having started the year with a string of excellent results, Cathels, who remains his harshest critic, is looking at using the Dripping Wet Pro Junior presented by Arrive alive as a springboard back onto the podium.

“I had a really great start to 2009,” he said.

“I started the year with a third, fourth and a fifth, but since then my results have been mediocre.”

A proud North Narrabeen local, Cathels will be drawing upon the local support to hopefully propel him into contention for a spot at the illustrious the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships to be staged in January 2010.

“To do well here in front of friends and family is always a great incentive,” Cathels admitted.

“But my goal is to finish off the year well and secure a birth at the World’s.”

Being a five-star rated event, with a prize purse of $15,000, the Dripping Wet Pro Junior presented by Dakine is of the upmost importance for all surfers looking to solidify momentum and ratings points going into the business end of the year.

The female side of the draw is also as enticing with the best 30 juniors across Australasia competition for $3000 at the Arrive alive Pro Junior presented by Dripping Wet.

Led by local phenomenon, and current ratings leader, Laura Enever (North Narrabeen, NSW) the level of female surfing is sure to be pushed to the limit as she also looks to claim the ASP Australasia Pro Junior Title at home.

With current ISA World Champion, and reigning Beachley Classic champion, Tyler Wright (Lennox Head, NSW) on hand to thwart Enever’s attempts at claiming the coveted title the Arrive alive Pro Junior presented by Dripping Wet will be one not to be missed.

Running in conjunction with both events will be the Skull Candy Cadet Cup.

The Skull Candy Cadet Cup sees the best 16 years and under competitors from around the country doing battle for $500 cash and an opportunity to show their wares in front of a strong crowd at Manly.

Also taking place throughout the event will be the Smith Sunglasses Expression Session where the crowd will be treated to dynamic and innovative surfing and the competitors will be rewarded for pushing the boundaries, to the tune of $200 cash.

The Dripping Wet Pro Junior presented by Arrive alive will take place from 17 - 20 September 2009.

The Dripping Wet Pro Junior presented by Arrive alive is proudly supported by Dripping Wet Surf shops Manly /Bondi , Arrive alive , Manly Council, Smith Optics, Skull Candy , Surfstitch , Mambo, Australian Surfing Life Magizine, Solid Racks, Red Bull, Stem Travel, Manly Warringah Credit Union and the Steyne Hotel.

About Arrive alive:

Arrive alive is the NSW Motor Accidents Authority’s (MAA) youth road safety program. The MAA regulates the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) personal injury insurance scheme in NSW (known as Greenslips).

The MAA is concerned about the over-representation of young people aged 17 to 25 in road crashes. Young drivers in this age group are at a higher risk of crashing than drivers of older ages for lots of reasons, including their inexperience, attitudes to driving and a tendency towards risk taking behaviour.

The MAA has a major commitment to improving road safety in NSW, and recognises that achieving this requires effective communication with young people about risk taking on the roads. This is where Arrive alive comes in.

Arrive alive includes a range of programs that reflect common interest areas for young people. These programs aim to involve young people in activities they enjoy while positively influencing attitudes and behaviours on the roads.

The MAA wants to see young people stay safe on the roads and Arrive alive!
