surf update 20 4 09 Cronullas Rory Jenkins and Jesse Horner rose to the challenge of a building southerly swell and near gale force winds to each claim division wins at the Fantastic Noodles Sutherland Shire Regional Junior Titles. With the rapidly building south swell due to a deepening low off the NSW coast, competition was relocated on Day 2 of the event to the famed waves of Cronulla Point. This did not deter the Sutherland Shires best junior surfers however, with competition across all divisions fierce.
In the Under 18 Boys, Jenkins continued his recent good run of results with an impressive win over the stylish Kurt Kiggins (Lilli Pilli) who, despite locking in a good to excellent range score, could not find a back up wave to get over the dominant Jenkins in the Final. Behind Kiggins in what was a super tight Final, were Connor OLeary (Cronulla) in third and Cory Robertson (Cronulla) in fourth. Meanwhile in the Under 16 Boys, Jesse Horner displayed impeccable wave selection in the solid 1.5-2m waves to overcome eventual runner-up Chris Robertson (Cronulla) to take the title. Zac Scott (Cronulla) and Max Rea (Cronulla) finished in third and fourth respectively.
The Under 14 Boys division saw a very strong roll up of entrants as a new wave of hungry competitive surfers in Cronulla takes hold. Joe Wallace (Caringbah) was too strong for the super competitive Jack Donovan (Caringbah) in the Final, booking himself a place in the Surfing Sutherland Shire team for the upcoming Arnette NSW Junior Surfing Titles with his win.
Just behind Donovan was Jarrod Pringle (Cronulla) in third and Dane Long (Cronulla) in fourth. Having recently announced the support of junior surfing throughout the state and the nation, the Fantastic Noodles State Junior Surfing Titles covers ten events in South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and Victoria, 14 Regional Junior Surfing Title events in NSW, plus an ASP Pro Junior event in South Australia in July.
