2009 KING OF THE ROCK

The 21st ahm 'King Of The Rock' went off with a bang. This year's Clifford/Prpic memorial comp was all about the barrel, just as it should be! Southbridge Boardiders decision to hold off till the second weekend of the waiting period paid off with a day of 4-6 perfection which spawned some perfect 10s from the field of Illawarra, interstate and international surfers.

Sand Diego's Nelson Kingery just missed out on a semi-final birth on his first time his first trip to The Rock. While barrel of the day went to local stalwart Leigh Carey whose ridiculously long stay behind the curtain earned him a perfect 10 as well as a Samsung DVD player to relive the moment, courtesy of Joyce Mayne,Warrawong!

The final was a goofy v natural showdown between Matty Smith and Carey, with Smith's vertical backhand attack winning out in the end.

This year's event, which was featured on WIN News, also saw the successful debut of the Compusurf Computerised Judging System developed by club president Colin Gow and Mark Langford.
