We were quickly introduced to the protocol of surfing Nusa Island style. Let one of the drivers know you're keen to go surfing, wax your board while he readies the boat, throw your boards in, and before you know it you're jetting about amongst the islands searching for the pick of the waves. We spent 11 nights at Nusa Island, surfed at least twice every day, and our appetite for waves was thoroughly satiated by the end of the trip. We met plenty of great people, both locals and fellow tourists. A big shout-out to Keith, Todd & Thomas
(from kiwi-land), Mim & Mat, and Mark! Here you'll find selected entries from our surf diary and a few pictures giving some idea of the waves we found and the things we saw.

I still owe Jai an SP for getting the first barrel of the trip! Jai isn't going to claim his own barrel, so I better. Nice easy take-off, slightly faded bottom-hand turn into an almost head-high barrel, back slightly arched (what a soul-man!), clean exit. Very picturesque

Oh Before I forget, I got to watch Simon stroke into a beautiful big wave at Nusa this morning, at least 4-5 ft, a huge open top-to-bottom barrel was breaking towards him at speed and had almost caught him by the time he dropped into it. A camera! A camera! My kingdom for a camera!

We went for a drive down the coastal highway Everyone had sore arms from waving to all the locals, these must be some of the friendliest people around and I think we saw almost all of them as we drove along the highway.

November Headed out to Raul for surf unbeknown to us, our boat was on the verge of going under with all the rain. Turns out the driver (Tim) had radioed back in saying the boat is going to sink!í, having nothing to bail it out with He had tried taking the bung out and going for a short drive to let the water out the back, but had gotten so scared when he started it up and all the water in the boast rushed towards him, that had run up the front to make sure it didn't capsize!
