Jakarta is definitely the dirtiest place that I have ever seen. The air pollution is unimaginable. The conditions that people live in are unbelievable. Basic services that we all take for granted at home like clean drinking water and sewerage systems is very rare. The place brings new meaning to the word "ghetto life". We live in a very lucky country.
We stayed overnight at the Tator hotel, Jl Jaksa which was comfortable but looked to be falling apart. Before retiring to bed, we had a quality dinner at the Ya-Udah restaurant across the road from the hotel. The food was great and it was served with a smile, bintang, lots of rice and 2 foot rats crawling in the alleyway next to the joint. The Ya-Udah restaurant, "where quality is an understatement"- that was there logo. After a quick breakfast at the hotel the next morning it was time for the long drive to Cimaja. cont>
